10,000 Trees Initiative Spring 2024 FreeTree Giveaway

The City of Ann Arbor Office of Sustainability and Innovations (OSI) is hosting the annual spring FreeTree Giveaway on Sunday, April 28, 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Washtenaw County residents are invited to register for a time slot to pick up 1-4 free tree seedlings to take home and plant in their yards.  This initiative is part of the A2ZERO carbon neutrality plan! Residents can help our city achieve its carbon neutrality goals by planting trees.

Registration is required: https://osi.a2gov.org/spring24freetree

Participants must select a pick-up location: either Clague Middle School (2616 Nixon Road) or Tappan Middle School (2251 E. Stadium Blvd.).

All trees will be small, bare-root seedlings/saplings that fit easily inside most vehicles. Registrants can select their tree species upon arrival at the event. Available species will include:

  • Northern white cedar (AKA arborvitae, Thuja occidentalis)
  • American larch (Larix laricina)
  • Eastern white pine (Pinus strobus)
  • Bur oak (Quercus macrocarpa)
  • Swamp white oak (Quercus bicolor)
  • White flowering dogwood (Cornus Florida)
  • Eastern redbud (Cercis canadensis)
  • Allegheny Serviceberry (Amelanchier Laevis)
  • Common pawpaw (Asimina triloba)

All species will be available at each pick-up location while supplies last. Tree planting and care information will be provided with every tree.
