True to its name, the Downriver area extends south of Detroit along the western shore of the Detroit River. Downriver?s origins reach back to the twentieth century when the community was heavily populated with auto factories, manufacturing suppliers, ship builders and steel mills. Today, Downriver is has diversified into a true suburban community, with residential neighborhoods and many recreational opportunities, including boating, fishing and bird watching.
